Location

About Charlotteville
A breathtakingly beautiful, small and friendly traditional fishing village where the fishermen still blow the Conch shell to herald their return to shore with the catch of the day.
Visitors will enjoy strolling along the golden sandy beach from one end of Man O' War Bay to the other, or follow the road through the village which then meanders uphill towards Pirate's Bay.
Both walks are scenic, serene, and idyllic, passing beach huts and stalls serving local dishes or selling garden produce (mangoes, papaya, fresh coconuts etc) and souvenirs, with flocks of seagulls bobbing on fishing boats, or fishermen enjoying the cooling, off-shore breezes while taking shade beneath almond trees on the shoreline.

Apart from the main beach at Man O' War Bay, there are several smaller beaches nearby to be explored on foot or aboard a local fishingboat (Pirogue). These Bays live up to their romantic names like Waterfall & Hermitage Bays & Lovers' Cove. This region is how one imagines the Caribbean used to be years ago before the on-set of mass tourism. Charlotteville is the farthest point on Tobago from the cluttered & developed south-west area with busy Crown Point airport Store Bay and Pigeon Point beaches – just an hour’s drive away but a world of difference.

The Island of Tobago
Tobago sits 11 degrees North of the equator and 60 degrees west of Greenwich. It is small (116 sq. miles) 25 miles long by approx. 7 miles at its widest. Its tiny frame encompasses enormous beauty – quiet beaches, waterfalls, forested hillsides - a rich and colourful history ( it changed hands 31 times in its turbulent colonial history), a vibrant Folklore, Heritage and Culture, and an astonishingly diverse marine life. The people of the island ( called Tow-bay-gonians) are friendly and hospitable, yet proud and independent, and visitors will enjoy a guest-host relationship not found on other Caribbean islands.

Officially part of the two-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago with a combined population of 1.1 million, the capital city is Port of Spain.
The island of Tobago itself has a population of 50,000 persons and its chief town is the port of Scarborough
The airport is Crown Point International – airport code is TAB (for Tobago)
Currency in use is the Trinidad-Tobago Dollar (TT$) but the US$ and Euro are widely accepted.
Time zone: GMT – 4 Hours (–5 Hours in Summer) or EST ( EST+1 in Winter )
International telephone access area code is +(868)
