Tropical RainforestsThe Tropical Rainforests of Tobago ( Main Ridge Forest Reserve ) – declared in 1765- are distinguished as the Western Hemisphere’s oldest rainforest reserve – and are a cool 20 minute drive away from the Inn.These rainforests are teeming with tropical flora and fauna, waterfalls and mountains, spectacular views and narrow misty hiking trails….. visits can easily be arranged through The Banana Boat Inn. Even without leaving the Inn visitors get a feel for the forest, being surrounded by the lush hillsides of Man O' War Bay whose tropical flora and fauna create a majestic backdrop to the Caribbean Sea. Bird life here is prolific and birdwatchers can add such species to their bird count as the Tobago Parrot, the Rufous-vented Chachalaca known locally as the "Cocrico", Magnificent Frigatebird, Booby, Tern, Red-billed Tropicbird, Brown Pelican, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, and Blue-crowned Motmot.
A purpose-built Dive Centre run by Caroline, the previous owner of Banana Boat, is just around the corner. |
